Course UC-7 – Antilock Brake Systems

Approximate length: 8 hours

CAAT Certificate awarded upon successful completion of course

This ABS program is designed to introduce technicians to the basic theory, operation, and diagnosis of Antilock Braking Systems. The components described are typical of those used in most manufacturers’ antilock systems. While each vehicle manufacturer has specific diagnostic and testing procedures, the information provided in this course should provide a basic understanding of antilock operation, which can then be applied to all systems.

  • Get a clear picture of the individual components that make up the ABS system and how they work together.

  • Review the components of a hydraulic system and discover how they affect ABS.

  • Be able to analyze these systems when they aren’t working properly.

  • Learn to use a scan tool to diagnose brake failures.

  • Practice using your DVOM or oscilloscope to detect component failures.

  • ABS Wiring Schematic Class Exercise

  • Explain the types of ABS systems and channels

  • Introduce Traction Control diagnosis
